How to Get Your Song Played on Nam Radio

Coxabling (DJ) for Nam Radio 7 min read

You have spent weeks on the beat, re-recorded the vocals three times, and the track finally sounds right. Now comes the part nobody warns you about: getting it in front of real ears.

For many Namibian and African artists, mainstream radio can feel like a closed door. Internet radio opens it a little wider. At Nam Radio, we exist to give emerging artists a platform that is less judgemental, so good music can be heard and recognised.

This guide explains how to submit your music to Nam Radio, what happens after you hit send, and how listeners can request songs with a single hashtag. We will also be honest about what we can and cannot promise.

What Is Nam Radio?

Nam Radio is a family of three internet radio stations: Nam Radio Global, Nam Radio Local and Pamtengo Radio. Nam Radio Local broadcasts live from Windhoek, Namibia, and the stations stream around the clock for listeners anywhere in the world.

Our mission is simple. We want to reduce inequalities for emerging artists in the entertainment industry, so they have better opportunities to be recognised on bigger platforms.

Each station has its own personality:

Nam Radio Global

A multi-genre, international mix. Think jazz, dancehall, deep house, gospel, Afrobeat and more.

Nam Radio Local

All-African discovery. This is the home for Afropop and for Southern, West and East African sounds, including traditional music.

Pamtengo Radio

Zimbabwe-forward African music with a London DJ and community feel. Expect Zim music, Maskandi, Amapiano and reggae.

If you want to feel the vibe before you submit, listen live first. It is the best research you can do.

Why Internet Radio Matters for Emerging Artists

Streaming platforms are crowded, and a new release can disappear within days. Radio works differently.

  • Curation: Your song sits next to other tracks chosen by people who care about the sound.
  • Repetition: Songs in a playlist can be heard more than once, and familiarity builds fans.
  • Reach: An online stream can reach listeners well beyond your home town.
  • Community: Listeners tag, share and talk about what they hear.

Radio will not make you famous overnight, and no station can guarantee results. But it is a real way to put your music in front of new listeners.

How to Submit Your Music to Nam Radio

Step 1: Get Your Track Radio-Ready

Before you hit send, check the basics. Our curators generally screen for three things:

  • Production quality: Is the mix clean? Is the volume balanced and free from distortion?
  • Vocal delivery: Can we hear the lyrics clearly, and does the performance carry the song?
  • Profanity: Radio-friendly versions only. If your song has explicit lyrics, send a clean edit.

A song does not need a huge studio budget. It does need care. MP3 or WAV files are accepted, and cover art is welcome.

Step 2: Label Your MP3 Properly

Presentation says a lot about you. Name the file like a professional:

  • Solo track: Artist Name - Song Title
  • Featured artists: Artist Name - Song Title (ft. Guest One, Guest Two)

It looks like a small thing, but it makes life far easier for the people building playlists, and it helps your track be found and credited correctly.

Step 3: Send Your Submission

There are two routes.

Option 1: the Nam Radio web form. Go to nam-radio.com/submit and log in. The form has no station picker, so you cannot choose which station your track goes to. Each track is assessed on its own merits for each of our stations, so a song that is not right for one may suit another.

Each artist gets 2 free submissions per month. After that, a submission costs 500 reward points (about $5) or 1 credit. A free submission is a chance to be considered, not a guarantee of acceptance.

Option 2: email. You can also email your MP3 to Playlist@Nam-Radio.com and include:

  • Artist name
  • Song title
  • Country
  • Your social handles (for example X/Twitter and Instagram), so we can tag you when your track plays
  • Optional: your album or single cover art

If you email, you may be pointed back to the web form.

Step 4: Add a Short Voice Note (Optional, But Fun)

Some playlists let you introduce your own song. If you record a voice note, keep it short, friendly and clear. Something like:

"Hello everyone, I'm [name], an [genre] artist from [country], and this is my new song [title]. You can find it on all major platforms. Thank you for listening!"

Record it somewhere quiet, speak close to the microphone, and send it in a common audio format. A badly recorded voice note can do more harm than no voice note at all.

Step 5: Wait for a Decision

Every submission through the form gets an individual decision. That decision will be one of the following:

  • Accepted
  • More materials requested
  • On hold
  • Declined

If your track is declined, you will get short written feedback, usually around 60 to 120 words, so you know what to work on. You are always welcome to submit another track or an improved version.

If your track is accepted, you are notified once it has been uploaded and assigned to a playlist. That means you may not hear anything until the track is actually scheduled. We cannot promise airplay, specific play times, or a date. If we do contact you, reply promptly, because missing files and unanswered questions are the easiest way to lose a slot.

How Listeners Can Request a Song with #Namrequestsongnow

Airplay is not only about submissions. Listeners shape what we play, too.

If a track is already in the Nam Radio Global library, you can request it on X using this format:

Song – Artist #Namrequestsongnow

For example: Song Title – Artist Name #Namrequestsongnow

A few things worth knowing:

  • Requests feed Nam Radio Global only.
  • The song must already be in the Global library, which holds around 1,800 tracks.
  • We check for requests about once an hour, so allow up to an hour.
  • When your request is queued, the station replies from @NamPlaylist and tags you.
  • If there is no match in the library, the request is not queued and you will not get a reply.

You can also use the request page at nam-radio.com/request.

Tip for artists: If your song is not in the library yet, a request will not work. Use the submission form first.

Tips to Stand Out

  • Listen before you submit. Get to know each station so you understand where your music might fit.
  • Send your best work. One strong, finished track beats a pile of rough ideas.
  • Keep your details accurate. Correct spelling and a clean file make life easier for everyone.
  • Make yourself easy to find. Claim your profiles on the major streaming platforms so new listeners can follow you.
  • Say thank you. If a track gets playlisted, share it and tag the station. Community goes both ways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose which Nam Radio station my song goes to?

No. The submission form has no station picker. Each track is assessed separately for each station, and the team decides where it fits.

Is it free to submit my music?

Each artist gets 2 free submissions per month through the web form. After that, a submission costs 500 reward points (about $5) or 1 credit. A free submission does not guarantee acceptance.

Will I get a reply?

Yes. Every submission through the form gets an individual decision: accepted, more materials requested, on hold, or declined. Declines include short feedback. Accepted artists are told once the track is uploaded and assigned to a playlist.

How do I request a song on Nam Radio?

Post on X using the format Song – Artist #Namrequestsongnow, or use the request page. The song must already be in the Nam Radio Global library, and it can take up to about an hour to be picked up.
