We are proud to introduce to you Swedish singer-songwriter Matilda Lindell. The talented artist is well known for her captivating and heartfelt performances. She is one of Stockholm’s most celebrated singers, having done back-up vocals for major labels and award-winning artists, as well as having fronted several bands and a cappella groups, Matilda is now continuing her success with ABBA THE CONCERT from her new home base of New York. She is also planning a smaller solo tour sharing her new arrangements and performing her original music after the success of releasing the single “One of Us” - the first ABBA cover of her collection of uniquely interpreted and beautiful versions.
“One of Us” is the first single from her upcoming EP titled “ABBA Uncovered”, which is a fascinating deep dive into ABBA. It includes her interpretations of a selection of ABBA songs that have brought special meaning to her over the years, while touring the US as one of the principal singers in the tribute act “ABBA THE CONCERT”. Her passion and musicality has taken her to venues such as the prestigious Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the gorgeous Wolf Trap Performing Arts Centre outside of Washington D.C.
According to the artist “One of Us” has always been one of Matilda’s personal favorites. “I’ve focused on the simplicity of the song to emphasize the lyrics and melody”, Matilda explains. “Taking the base line heavy, groovy track, and turning it into a folky, guitar-based version, inviting in dramatic, classically inspired strings”. Matilda co-produced with Philadelphia based Andrew Lipke who has arranged strings and orchestra for one of Matilda’s big inspirations, the brilliant singer-songwriter Amos Lee, among others. Andrew didn’t hesitate when Matilda reached out for collaboration on these intimate ABBA recordings. In “One of Us”, they composed the string arrangement together for the perfect balance of classical intensity and contemporary freshness.
